The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii Are Here, And They’re Quite Shocking

Reading Time: 5 minutes

The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii have arrived on Tertium, and they’re already showing the heretics the power of the Omnissiah. These biomechanical marvels bring with them a massive arsenal of unique weapons and abilities. Not only that, but this new class marks the first-ever distinct talent tree in Darktide’s history.

The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii are unlike any other force of the Imperium, as if their looks aren’t a giveaway. Skitarii, warriors of the Adeptus Mechanicus, feature cybernetics that grant them terrifying precision and various other abilities. And their abilities are what we’ll talk about, along with their weapons and strange talent tree.

The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii are a strange bunch, as they belong to a completely different breed of humans altogether. Unlike the fleshy warriors we’ve grown to love, the Skitarii are nearly all machine, which affects how they fight on every level. They fight with machine precision, they don’t feel tired like us, or need to eat.

While these are somewhat dramatized excerpts from encounters and records of the Skitarii, they aren’t completely wrong. These warriors fight like no force of the Imperium, with weapons and abilities that seem almost alien to anyone who isn’t Adeptus Mechanicus. And to show you what I mean, let’s talk about their weapons first.

The Weapons Of The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii

The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii bring in an eye-watering six whole weapons that are unique to them. These weapons include three ranged weapons and three melee weapons. In addition to new weapons, each of these weapons has its own special properties and abilities, similar to every other weapon in Darktide.

However, to keep this article from getting super long, I’ll only mention them by name and what they do. I’ll break them down into further detail in a future article, and the same goes for the Skitarii’s abilities. And trust me, it’s necessary, the weapons and abilities of the Skitarii have a lot going on for every one of them.

The weapons of the Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii are as follows:

  • The Melee Weapons:
    • The Arc Maul: A blunt maul with an energy coil built into its construction that empowers each swing
    • The Mechanicus Power Sword: A power sword crafted by the Adeptus Mechanicus for superior power and precision that can energize strikes on command
    • The Paired Transonic Blades: A dual-wield weapon that combines a long Transonic Blade with a nimble Transonic Razor, both with resonant attunement capabilities
  • The Ranged Weapons:
    • The Arc Rifle: A heavy, electrocuting, slow-firing, but fully-automatic rifle with a high magazine capacity, but slow reload speed
    • The Galvanic Rifle: An accurate and high-powered semi-automatic rifle with a small clip that’s perfect for hitting weak spots
    • The Mechanicus Phosphor Pistol: A powerful revolver that fires incendiary rounds loaded with phosphor

The Abilities And Blitzes Of The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii

The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii come with shiny high-tech toys that the simple mind of a mere human couldn’t comprehend. But comprehension isn’t needed for these toys to help you and your team in the heat of battle. And if you’re the Skitarii using them, then I certainly hope you can comprehend your tools.

One of the more interesting things about the Combat Abilities of the Skitarii is that they don’t operate on a cooldown system. The Combat Abilities of the Skitarii operate on a charge system, which you can use to spend multiple charges to empower your abilities. Skitarii have a maximum of three charges and can generate them over time or by killing.

Another unique thing about the Skitarii is that they can choose to bring their Servo-Skulls or other Blitzes. While the Servo-Skulls have their own uses and upgrades, it’s understandable that some players won’t like how they function. So, let’s see the Combat Abilities, Blitzes, and Servo-Skulls of the Skitarii.

The abilities, Blitzes, and Servo-Skulls of the Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii are as follows:

  • The Combat Abilities:
    • Voltaic Expander: The Skitarii’s base ability that unleashes an electric discharge around you
    • Voltaic Emitter: An improved version of Voltaic Expander that improves range and adds more debuffs to enemies
    • Chordclaw Strike: Consume one charge to perform a powerful heavy melee attack using a Chordclaw
    • Advanced Combat Doctrines: Spend 25% of your charge buildup, swap to your secondary weapon, and lock onto enemies with Omnissiah-approved aim bot
  • The Servo-Skulls:
    • The Base Servo-Skull: This skull comes with a Laspistol that will target enemies, and you can also have this skull complete Data Interrogations by double pinging them. You can empower this skull with extra stats and debuffs by using your Blitz input.
    • The Artificer Servo-Skull: An improved version of the base Servo-Skull that has the previous temporary buffs as a permanent buff
    • The Medicae Servo-Skull: An additional Servo-Skull you can bring that can bring your downed, hogtied, and netted teammates back up with some temporary buffs. Comes with four charges that get shared with the Purgator Servo-Skull.
    • The Purgator Servo-Skull: An additional Servo-Skull you can bring that can both disperse flames across an area or focus fire on a single target. Comes with four charges that get shared with the Medicae Servo-Skull.
  • The Blitzes:
    • The Arc Grenades: Grenades that create an electrical explosion that Arcs four times, prioritizing Armoured and Specialist Enemies
    • The Integrated Refractor Emitter: A shield that absorbs all incoming ranged damage and causes an electric explosion around you upon activation and again when it ends

The Talent Tree Of The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii

The talent tree of the Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii deviates wildly from the other classes. Instead of the usual top-to-bottom semi-linear design of old, the Skitarii talent tree starts from the center and branches out in all directions. This talent tree allows Skitarii players to spec into some insane builds that wouldn’t be possible with other classes.

Not only that, but this talent tree will have more nodes to choose from compared to previous classes. This free-flowing design, paired with the extra nodes, should allow Skitarii players to build classes that fill in those unfilled niches. However, only time will tell how well players use this new talent tree to their benefit.

Is That All For The Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii?

Everything mentioned here is definitely not everything the Warhammer 40K Darktide Skitarii has to offer. As mentioned before, I’ll be detailing the weapons and abilities of the Skitarii on a later date, as they deserve an article of their own. But everything you’ve read here should give you everything you need to play the Skitarii class.

Though if you’d like a deeper rundown on the weapons and abilities of the Skitarii class, then you’ll know where to look. Until then, continue to serve the Emperor and cleanse Tertium of the unclean!
