The cinematic trailer for Marathon Season 2: Nightfall has appeared, and it reveals several features coming in the next Season. The trailer arrived earlier today, on May 27, 2026, and people are already analyzing it, including me. The art direction is reason enough to watch anything Marathon-related on repeat, so who can blame us?
While watching the latest trailer for Marathon Season 2: Nightfall, the community, including me, noticed a few things. This trailer gives us a look at a few features that Bungie has spoken about in motion, and it sent shivers running down my spine. And I can’t bear the burden of shivering my timbers alone, so I’m going to drag you along with me in this analysis.
The Features In The Marathon Season 2: Nightfall Cinematic Trailer

As mentioned, the Marathon Season 2: Nightfall cinematic trailer dropped earlier today, on May 27, 2026. And people are already analyzing the trailer for every inch of detail mere hours after its release, and nobody can blame them. The details of Season 2 have existed in nothing but words until this trailer dropped, at least for some of them.
While most of the trailer’s contents are a bit of a mystery, there are some outliers we can identify. These outliers in the Marathon Season 2: Nightfall cinematic trailer are the new Runner Shell, weapon, and map, along with its terrors. And where else to start than the new playable Runner Shell, Sentinel?
The New Runner Shell, Sentinel

Sadly, the Marathon Season 2: Nightfall cinematic trailer doesn’t reveal anything about Sentinel’s abilities, at least from my analysis. But it does reveal what Sentinel looks like in motion, and they look amazing. Sentinel seems to resemble Recon in their aesthetic, except for the fully closed visor on their face that eerily reminds me of Rorschach.
From the looks of it, Sentiel is the first fully masked Shell in Marathon, as Recon and Destroyer have their mouths exposed. Not only that, but Sentinel’s visor has a peculiar trait to it; it has dark, ink-like blotches that resemble a Rorschach test. Not only does it resemble a Rorschach test, but it moves like the mask of the famous Rorschach character.
Moving a bit lower, we have the body of Sentinel, which comes clothed in the same manner as our beloved Recon. Sentinel comes decked out with a practical tactical vest that holds pouches and various other pieces of equipment of unknown purpose. And their build is similar to Triage, which is a slim medium build, unlike the slim and gangly build of Assassin.
The New Weapon

Not only do we see the new Shell in the Marathon Season 2: Nightfall cinematic trailer, but they’re also wielding the new weapon. While we don’t have a name for his weapon, we do know its weapon type, what inspired it, and what it looks like. And we can infer how it will function with these in mind.
From what we can see in the trailer, the new weapon is a compact, integrally suppressed SMG with a foldable stock. It doesn’t end there, either, because we can also see the SMG coming equipped with a drum magazine for high-capacity fire. Judging by its fire rate in the trailer, it’s going to fire at a similar pace to the Bully SMG.
But unlike the Bully, this new SMG may use light ammunition, judging by its slimmer magazine. Interestingly, the SMG seen in the trailer has its stock folded when used by Sentinel, so perhaps its foldable stock will provide something in gameplay. Lastly, this SMG seems to be inspired by the KKV-7 10mm SMG Flechette from Marathon Infinity.
The New Map, Night Dire Marsh

While the new Shell and weapon are quite the exciting additions to the game, the most exciting one has to be Night Dire Marsh. The very first thing you see in the Marathon Season 2: Nightfall cinematic trailer is the sun setting on the familiar Dire Marsh map. And Runners materialize onto the map as the sun finally sets and night falls, hehe, get it?
And with the night comes the advantage of stealth, but there are a few things to help you against those who use stealth. Firstly, it seems that all ways will receive flashlights for free, though I could be completely wrong. And secondly, flares can be seen in the trailer, lighting up areas for everyone to see, though it’s unknown who can use them.
However, no matter how far we’ve come with evolution, you can never escape what lurks in the darkness. And this is truer than ever as new threats lurk in the shadows of the swampy environment of Dire Marsh. While it isn’t clear what these threats are, you don’t need to know everything about them to know that they’re vicious.
The new enemies seen in the trailer seem to hijack old and forgotten Runner Shell corpses, almost like zombies. And these aren’t your run-of-the-mill Walking Dead zombies; we’ve got the fast and terrifying zombies, of course. These freakish abominations feature multiple limbs, lightning-fast reflexes, and possible stealth capabilities, because of course they have that.
Is That All In The Marathon Season 2: Nightfall Cinematic Trailer?
Unfortunately, everything here is what I could find in the Marathon Season 2: Nightfall cinematic trailer; I could’ve missed a few. Though if you’d like to take a crack at finding what’s hidden away in the trailer, then go right on ahead. We need more observant people in every community, especially ones as mysterious and cryptid as Marathon.
And if you have found something that I haven’t mentioned, then please feel free to write it in the comments. I’d love to hear about your discoveries, because I’m also a fan of Marathon, like many of you out there. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait for too long to see the entire contents of Season 2, as it’s only six days away.
With that in mind, go and enjoy the end of Season 1; it’s going to be a while before something like this happens again. Now arm yourself and show those UESC Bots what for!
