The Phasmophobia Player Character update arrived on all platforms on May 5, 2026. This update includes several additions and changes, but the main attraction is the changes made to the Unity asset characters. The sterile and bland Unity asset character models that we’ve grown to love are no more, as this update expands your customization options tenfold.
The Phasmophobia Player Character update does away with the old customization system, if you could call it one. After all, the only options for customization that players had were the three male and female character models available since launch. But that changes with the latest update, so let’s take a look at the new customization system.
The Options For Players In The Phasmophobia Player Character Update

Before the Phasmophobia Player Character update, players could only choose between 6 default player models. But thanks to the latest update, players won’t have to stay tacky, as their customization options have multiplied. And to start the list of customization options, we’ll talk about the new character models that you can pick.
The New Character Models And Animations
This update introduces 12 new character models, all with quality that far surpasses the models of old. These 12 models include six male and six female models, each with their own character bios, customizable hair colours, and much more. And it doesn’t end there; new character models mean new interactions with the world.
The new models allow for character animations for interactions with equipment, objects, and the environment. Not only that, but you’ll experience a new death animation when you inevitably perish in your line of duty. However, some of you professional ghost hunters out there may not get to see it unless you purposely slip up.
The New Customization Options
The latest update doesn’t end with new character models; it also includes clothing and much more. After selecting your character model, you can customize your hair, facial features, accessories, clothes, and your ID badge. And while that sounds like a lot already, you can expect much more to come as more updates arrive.
On the topic of clothes, you can equip coats, shirts, and trousers, all with colour options. You can also unlock unique shirts by earning them through prestige and event-specific achievements. I also mentioned that you can equip accessories to your character, which include piercings, hats, and glasses.
For now, all cosmetics are either unlockable in-game or purchased with in-game currency.
Is That All For The Phasmophobia Player Character Update?

Of course not, the Phasmophobia Player Character update features an abundance of changes and additions to the game. However, I haven’t mentioned them here because I wanted to focus on the new customization options first and foremost. Though if you’d like to read about the changes and additions, you’d better stick around.
Until I get around to listing the changes and additions of the Phasmophobia Player Character update, you’d better get back to work. You’ve got clients crawling out of the walls for your services, so gear up and get in that truck. You’ve got to bring the life back into these haunted places somehow.
