With the release of the Helldivers 2 6.2.2 patch on April 28, 2026, the Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain has made a reappearance. But they aren’t what you knew them as when they first surfaced. Now, with the mysterious changes made by the bugs, the Spore Burst strain has transformed into a terrifying threat to humanity.

Not only has the Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain gained newfound abilities, but it’s also recruited a new unit into its ranks. This new unit makes use of the Spore Burst strain’s new ability with one of its attacks, so you must adapt quickly or you’ll get overwhelmed. So, let’s prevent that from happening by analyzing the new and improved Spore Burst strain.

The Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain has taken Helldivers by surprise with the latest Major Order to liberate Brilliance, Big Rock, and Luxuriant. Helldivers initially expected their usual Terminid foes, as the War Map didn’t state any special units occupying the planets. But they were sorely mistaken, as the new foes quickly overwhelmed the vanguard force.

However, it’s thanks to their honorable deaths that we now know how to combat the despicable forces of the Spore Burst strain. So, to further honor their deaths, you’d better strap in for this briefing on the Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain. We’ll start with what’s changed with the Spore Burst strain.

What’s Different About The Spore Burst Strain?

Previously, the Spore Burst strain didn’t do much besides making basic units explode after death. But with the latest update, they now leave a cloud of spores behind upon exploding, which their friendlies can capitalize on. Not only do the spore clouds hinder vision, but they also buff enemy units that walk through them.

When walking through these clouds, the Spore Scavenger, Spore Hunter, and Spore Warrior all receive buffs. The buff in question significantly buffs their movement speed, allowing even the tiniest Scavenger to outrun you. These spore clouds come from two sources: the exploded corpses of Spore Terminids or the breath of the new Spore unit.

The New Spore Burst Strain Unit

As mentioned, two methods exist to spread the buff to enemy units: exploded corpses and the spore breath of the new unit. The new unit with the powerful spore breath is none other than the massive Spore Titan, the Spore strain’s own Bile Titan. This beast is nearly identical to the Bile Titan, except for its slightly increased health and Spore Breath.

While it’s still dangerous, the Spore Breath deals far less damage than the Bile Breath of the standard Bile Titan. The only danger that it poses is that it will ragdoll Helldivers in range and leave a spore cloud to buff enemies who move into it. Moving along, I mentioned that the Spore Titan had slightly more health, and that may trip up a few Helldivers.

The Spore Titan of the Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain has 500 increased health and 1,000 increased head health. This health increase leaves the Spore Titan with 7,000 main health and 2,500 head health, a relatively small change that will change how you approach this unit. With its 2,500 head health, EATs and the Quasar will no longer one-shot its head.

However, you mustn’t lose hope, as the Recoilless Rifle and Spear will still destroy its head in one shot, given that you hit it. And thanks to the recent ammo buff for the Spear, it may find some use against the new Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain. Of course, the Recoilless still provides the most versatility compared to the Spear, but that’s up to you to decide.

What Weapons Are Effective Against The Spore Burst Strain?

Now that you know your enemy, you must equip yourself appropriately to combat these fungus-ridden pests. Every weapon is effective against these foes, but some weapons will provide you with an easier time against them. Balistic and explosive weapons, including plasma, will detonate their corpses, leaving behind the dreaded spore clouds.

However, weapons that make use of fire or gas don’t have this issue, and that’s what you should be using. While it may seem obvious which weapons use fire, you may have missed one weapon type, and that would be beam weapons. Beam weapons will set enemies alight with a couple of seconds of contact.

To reiterate, fire and gas weapons are your best bet against these moldy masses. However, that doesn’t mean that’s all you can use, but it’s what will prevent the enemies from exploding into a cloud of spores. So, you can use your favorite ballistic or explosive weapons; you only have to prepare for a whole lot of spores when you do.

Is The Helldivers 2 Spore Burst Strain Everything New With The Terminids?

While Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain is certainly formidable, this is far from what the Terminids have to offer. Shortly before the discovery of the new Spore strain, footage from a recovered Helldiver bodycam revealed something terrifying. Unfortunately, even the Ministry of Science is clueless about this threat, but it isn’t the new Spore Burst strain.

So, we must stay vigilant about this new and mysterious bug threat, but don’t let that distract you from the current Helldivers 2 Spore Burst strain. We also have a Major Order to complete, and High Command won’t accept failure as a result. So, Helldiver, get in that pod and arm yourself with the knowledge you’ve learned here and kick some moldy bug butt!
