With that knowledge in mind, how can the Helldivers take this beast down if they were to encounter it? First, we must understand what the Illuminate Leviathan is in Helldivers 2. The Leviathan is a massive warship with immense firepower and durability, possessing cannons and bomb bays.
And as its role implies, the “ship” in warship means that it soars through our free skies to tarnish its beauty. Though depending on whether they’re weaving through buildings or open skies, they could be sitting ducks. Regardless, you can also be a sitting duck if you are in its range without cover, so find some or make some.
Second, what weapons are effective against the Leviathan, and which one should the Helldivers use? As mentioned earlier, the Leviathan is incredibly durable, boasting tank armor, which is right above heavy armor. Thankfully, there are ways to crack its rigid shell and gain access to its soft innards.
While you can destroy its cannons with heavy penetration weapons, you’ll have to face all four of them. Instead, you can crack open its armor with anti-tank weapons like the GR-8 Recoilless Rifle to render it vulnerable to heavy penetration weapons. Though you can dismantle the cannons on the Leviathan with heavy penetration weapons, there are still three others.
Once its shell is cracked open, you and your teammates can effectively damage it with less specialized weapons. Note that if there are no heavy weapons available, you may continue to use your anti-tank weapons until the Leviathan falls. For example, all 6 GR-8 Recoilless Rifle shots or all 4 FAF-14 Spear will take down a single Leviathan.
It is necessary to understand that these are just a few methods of harpooning the flying whale out of the sky. The only requirement is to have an anti-tank weapon to breach its carapace and a heavy penetration weapon to hurt its flesh. So the combinations of anti-tank weapons and heavy penetration weapons may vary according to your preference.
