The company behind Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, Games Workshop has finally released the first teaser for Warhammer 40K Astartes 2. The highly anticipated sequel to the fan-favourite animation originally released in 2018 has excited fans, but the teaser raises concerns about what to expect from the final product.
Warhammer 40K Astartes 2 Teaser
The teaser hints at multiple Space Marine Chapters and showcases brutal combat, vehicle skirmishes, and epic space battles.
The teaser showed the Retributor’s return from the original Astartes, along with Blood Angels, Mortifactors, Sons of Medusa, and Scythes of the Emperor. Enemies in the teaser include Tyranids, Orks, and Tau, making for a diverse and action-packed preview.
However, Games Workshop confirmed that none of the scenes in the teaser will be in the final animation. The footage serves only as a thematic introduction, highlighting the past of the characters who will appear in the show. This revelation has disappointed part of the community as they expected actual clips from the show.
Warhammer 40K Astartes 2 Release
Warhammer 40K Astartes 2 will arrive in 2026 exclusively on Warhammer+, Games Workshop’s subscription service. It will feature minimal dialogue and focus on intense action within the Warhammer 40K universe like the previous instalment. The animation’s focus on the Deathwatch, an elite unit composed of Marines from different Chapters, hints at a unique and thrilling story.
The creator of Astartes, Syama Pedersen is leading the project after being hired by Games Workshop. Syama Pedersen origionally created Astartes, a five-part Warhammer 40,000 fan film that was so good and loved by the community that Games Workshop hired him to work on their own animations. He is also responsible for the Retributor chapter of space marines and made it part of the official canon.
He previously contributed to Amazon’s Secret Level anthology, working on the And They Shall Know No Fear animation tied to Space Marine 2. His involvement reassures fans that the sequel will maintain the same high-quality animation and storytelling.
Despite Pedersen’s involvement, the community remains divided. As some fans show concern about the teaser’s content and final product due to Game Workshop’s confirmation, other remain excited.
What This Means for Warhammer 40K Fans
The Astartes 2 teaser signals Games Workshop’s commitment to high-quality animation. While some fans are frustrated by the misleading teaser, the series still holds immense potential. If Pedersen delivers the same stunning visuals and intense action, Astartes 2 could set a new standard for Warhammer 40K media.
With a 2026 release date, fans will have to wait for more details. Until then, speculation will continue, and excitement will build as Warhammer 40K’s cinematic universe expands.
