Another update has hit your local METEM ship’s starboard side, and it’s the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update. The update graced METEM’s followers with its presence on May 21, 2026, and its presence brings a bountiful amount of content for Ectypes, new and old. However, the update isn’t just for METEM’s followers; it’s also for the enemies.

The Void Crew Maximum Calamity update brings in a laundry list of additions that many players have waited for. These highly requested features are going to be put to the test, as new threats have emerged with the recent update. Regardless, we can’t use or fight something that we barely know about, so let’s fix that by delving into the recent update.

The Contents Of The Void Crew Maximum Calamity Update

The Void Crew Maximum Calamity update features plenty of content for both METEM followers and the enemies of METEM. With that in mind, I’ll be splitting up the contents of this update into two categories: friendly and unfriendly content. To start our list, let’s begin with the content that will help the followers of METEM, because we’re loyal like that.

The Friendly Content

The New Weapons

This update introduces new weapons for the Ectypes to use in their pilgrimage, which will hopefully boost their effectiveness. These new weapons also come with BRAIN variants for the solo Ectypes and smaller crews. There’s also a new BRAIN weapon that doesn’t include the new weapons, but let’s start with the new weapons first.

The new weapons in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update are as follows:

  • The Bestower Flak Cannon: A new heavy caliber weapon specialized in area denial by using a swarm of shrapnel. Similar to the Flak rounds of real life, the Flak cannon’s shells exploded either by proximity or after a certain distance. This weapon is perfect for those pesky swarms of fighters, and it now resides in the Heavy loadout.
  • The Absolver Lance: A high-power-cost-precision weapon with not so great range, but it does have epic damage possibility. The Absolver Lance fires a beam that increases in damage the longer you fire, but it also drains more energy. With some clever planning, you could turn this weapon into something better than a Spartan Laser.

The New BRAIN Modules

As mentioned, Ectypes now have an expanded selection of BRAIN weapons that aren’t the energy and ballistic versions. With these new modules, solo and under-crewed ships can now have more options in their loadout. Not only that, but you can now toggle your BRAINs to fire freely or only target target-locked enemies.

The new BRAIN modules in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update are as follows:

  • The Bestower Flak BRAIN
  • Absolver Lance BRAIN
  • Orison Autocannon BRAIN

The New Modules And Weapon Change

Alongside the new BRAIN modules and weapons are the new ship modules in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update that you can use to up your utility. I also decided to include a weapon change as it still technically counts as a module, and it’s an amazing change. In fact, this weapon change makes it possible to create a new custom loadout.

The new modules and weapon changes in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update are as follows:

  • The Shrine Relic Module: The Shrine Relic module comes as a complete surprise to many in the community. It does this because it acts as another slot for a Relic in your ship for no power draw in the slightest. So if you need another Relic slot, then keep an eye out for the new Shrine Relic module.
  • The Tiered Automechanic Module: While it isn’t a new module, it is rather an upgrade, though it felt appropriate to include it. The Automechanic module now includes three tiers, with each tier improving its performance. Hopefully, this should further help your lone engineer in maintaining your massive ship.
  • The Payload Module Change: Instead of having to craft each payload you send out, you now only need to craft one of each kind. Each payload you craft now creates a payload battery. And like any other battery, it can recharge, whether that be in the hands of an Ectype, in the payload launcher’s breach, or in a recharge slot.

With that said, it’s now possible to make a payload-exclusive loadout with your crew with the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update. And if you include the Charged Payloads Relic, which increases the speed at which the battery charges while in the breach, then your effectiveness expands tenfold. In fact, that’s the loadout I’ll be trying out with my friends when I have the chance to do so.

The New Ship Loadouts

The Void Crew Maximum Calamity update also includes two new ship loadouts, though one is exclusive to loadout challenges. The new standard loadout is Underpowered, and the blessed homonculus grants you more damage the more energy you overdraw. The new challenge loadout is Fireworks, a loadout full of the new Bestower Flak Cannon.

The New Objectives

The Void Crew Maximum Calamity update also includes new objectives for the Ectypes to complete. These new objectives include primary objectives and side objectives, along with an update to an older objective. Some of these objectives also introduce new enemy types, but we’ll get to them soon, so hold your horses.

The new objectives in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update are as follows:

  • The Fleet Battle Primary Objective: This new primary objective sees you assisting METEM Vanguard missile boats against HOLLOW forces. When entering the fight, HOLLOW forces will deploy several HOLLOW Cruiser Elites one at a time, and you must dispatch them. Your pilot is surely going to get an aneurysm from the chaos.
  • The Armory Side Objective: This new side objective calls for you to raid an armory full of goodies for your ship. However, it’s heavily guarded, so don’t expect to grab everything without some resistance. The developers have also stated that the first armory you encounter might not be the best one, so save your keys.
  • The Distress Call Side Objective: When answering the distress call and jumping to its location, you’ll quickly discover that you aren’t the first one there. All you can do now is loot what’s available and get out in time. Just because the main forces have left doesn’t mean that the Reclaimer isn’t close behind.
  • The Reworked Priority Target Side Objective: Priority Targets has received some adjustments, specifically, it now includes a wider roster of enemies. Not only that, but it also includes more rewards that make you want to complete the objective even more. Though be careful, those new enemies don’t mess around.

The New Enemies

Speaking of enemies, the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update also includes a whole list of new enemies. And while some of these new enemies are upgraded versions of existing enemies, there is a new enemy that might give you trouble. There’s also a new creature that will give you trouble, but only if you give it trouble.

The new enemies in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update are as follows:

  • The HOLLOW Cruiser Elite: A new capital-class HOLLOW threat that is the centerpiece of the Fleet Battle primary objective. The HOLLOW Cruiser Elite also has its own spot in the reworked Priority Targets side objective. And do keep in mind that the elite title isn’t a fancy piece of decoration; it’s earned its place as an elite enemy.
  • The HOLLOW Destroyer Elite: An upgraded version of the standard Destroyer chassis. It’s faster, deadlier, and much more resilient compared to its standard variant. Similar to the previously mentioned elite, you mustn’t underestimate these new elite units, because they will rock your ship any chance they get.
  • The REMNANT Frigate Elite: The REMNANT is also developing its own elite units, and they’re upgrading their ferocious Frigates. While the standard versions are relatively easy to defeat by targeting their fuel tanks, the elite version won’t give you that chance. The REMNANT has learned, and they’ve armored the fuel tanks.
  • The HOLLOW Hydra: The HOLLOW Hydra is the first new enemy in quite some time, and it’s not going to be an easy fight. As its name may imply, the Hydra splits into three different units upon exploding, so it’s going to give you a tough time. And if you happen to enable the Revenant HOLLOW modifier on, then that’s your fault.

The New Encounters

The Void Crew Maximum Calamity update also introduces new encounters, adding to the massive list of additions. Encounters are what you run into alongside your mission, such as the occasional loot crates and ice shard storms. And if you haven’t noticed, these encounters aren’t always friendly or unfriendly, so you’ll have to play it by ear.

The new encounters in this update are as follows:

  • The Voidfish: These creatures float happily through space, staring at the stars, and you can keep it that way. Or, you can alternatively hunt these creatures down for a chance of gaining some extra biomass for your ship. And if you do hunt them down, they won’t hesitate to defend themselves.
  • The Void Rift Mines: I bet that you’ve thought about how annoying mines are, especially when they follow you around when close. Well, they’re about to get a whole lot more annoying. These mines will now occasionally spawn in your area, but this only happens when you enter an area with this encounter.

The New Calamities

Finally, we’ve reached the namesake of the update, the new Calamities in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update. You’ve already seen what a Calamity is, and it’s none other than the Reclaimer, but now there’s more for you and your crew to worry about. However, they’re only a problem if you don’t manage your time well, so be punctual.

The new Calamities in the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update are as follows:

  • The Singularity: Once time runs out, a tear in space appears, and out comes a devastating black hole. This singularity will relentlessly wrench your ship into its horizon, so you’d better be a good pilot or your pilot better be good. And if you happen to be outside with an EVA, you’d better hope you have the Grappling Hook perk.
  • The Void Sanction: It’s a nuke, the HOLLOW are nuking you, you’re getting nuked, the HOLLOW are impatient, so they’re nuking you. And I don’t mean cooking you with radiation, no, they’re deploying a bigger Void Harbinger payload on your doorstep. Not only that, but it’s on an incredibly short fuse, so punctuality is of the essence.

Is That All For The Void Crew Maximum Calamity Update?

As massive as the Void Crew Maximum Calamity update already is, there’s still more to the update. Though the remaining pieces contain various changes and adjustments to existing systems, I only discussed the new content in this update. However, if you’d like to see the various changes and adjustments, then you’ll have to stick around.

Until then, man your stations, because it’s time for another Pilgrimage, and you’re more than prepared after reading this. So explore the stars, and make METEM proud!
