And you can tell your friends so that they can have the chance to join you in the upcoming playtest.

But you might be asking, what’s so different about the second War Thunder infantry playtest, and how does it compare to the first? The second playtest features new mechanics for players to test as well as several improvements from the first playtest. So, let’s delve into the additions and improvements.

The second War Thunder infantry playtest features numerous improvements and new additions for testing. These improvements exist thanks to the feedback that players provided from the first playtest in December 2025. However, let’s start with the new additions in the second War Thunder infantry playtest before we discuss the improvements.

The New Additions Of The Second War Thunder Infantry Playtest

The Two New Domination Modes

With the second playtest, Gaijin, the developers of War Thunder, are testing two game modes, both of which are Domination modes. The first Domination mode features three capture points designed for 64v64 matches. The second Domination mode is a smaller version of the first, featuring one capture point built for 20v20 matches.

Gaijin plans to make the larger Domination mode a limited-time mode, as they may need to take it down to fix any issues. In the event of this mode getting shut down, the smaller-scale Domination mode will take its place until further notice. Let’s hope the War Thunder servers can handle the load so that maintenance isn’t necessary.

The New Al-Massa Map

With the second phase of testing arriving soon, you can expect to see a new map, Al-Massa. Al-Massa features architecture and aesthetics commonly seen in cities in the Middle East, perfect for those who love sand, tan colours, and more sand. The uniforms and equipment of the soldiers will adapt to the new environment by changing their camouflage.

The New Weapons

The second War Thunder infantry playtest will feature brand new weapons for your soldiers to use. These new additions won’t lock out the previous weapons you’ve used in the first playtest; they’re here to give you more options. The new weapons in the second War Thunder infantry playtest are as follows:

  • The AKS-74U
  • The SCAR-L
  • The KORD 6P68
  • The Colt 9mm SMG
  • The KS-P
  • The Mossberg 590

The Improvements In The Second War Thunder Infantry Playtest

The New Squad System

With the second playtest, you won’t have to worry about controlling your squad of bots anymore. Squads will now fill up with exclusively human players and no longer have bots that you’ll have to manage. The only time you’ll see bots is when there aren’t enough players to fill up every squad in your match.

With the new squad system, you can now choose to spawn either with your team or at a respawn point. However, there’s a risk you’ll have to take when spawning near your teammates. The risk is that you won’t have any spawn protection at all, so you must decide to either take the spawn nearest to the action or the safer spawn.

The Improved Class System

In the first playtest, all classes carried heavy gear that slowed them down an equal amount, no matter the class you played. But that changes with the second playtest, as you can now customize what armor and gear you bring into the battlefield. So, will you choose to be prepared for any occasion and lumber around, or specialize in a task and zip around?

The Various Other Improvements

The second War Thunder infantry playtest also features various other adjustments that aren’t big enough for their own discussion. But they’re still important enough to talk about in some way or another, so we’ll quickly list them out here. The various improvements in the second War Thunder infantry playtest are as follows:

  • You can see the weight of your gear in the spawn selection screen
  • Improved weapon icons
  • Drones now have a new virtual camera
  • Audio received significant improvements

There are obviously plenty more improvements and changes coming in the upcoming playtest, but this is all we have for now. We’ll have more information when the patch notes arrive with the second War Thunder infantry playtest release. But until that happens, this is all we have on the improvements coming to the second playtest.
