Spider-Man and The Punisher
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Marvel Studios has confirmed that the Punisher is returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role of Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher. This is the first time we’ll see a brutal vigilante like The Punisher alongside Spider-Man in the MCU. The Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day can mean a lot of things, and we are going to explore them.

A More Grounded Punisher in Spider-Man

After the multiverse-shaking events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Brand New Day is set to lower the stakes a bit. Holland’s Peter Parker will be returning to the basics, which means no Stark tech, Avengers support or S.H.I.E.L.D., just the friendly neighbourhood hero navigating the world. Into this grounded setting comes the ruthless force called Frank Castle, Bringing a lethal approach to Spider-Man’s more righteous approach to serving justice.

Jon Bernthal, who’s back in his fan-favourite role as The Punisher, will bring a dark, gritty, and no-sense approach to justice in the movie. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher has earned critical acclaim for his performances in Netflix’s Daredevil, The Punisher series and the most recent Daredevil: Born Again. Interestingly, by the looks of it, Marvel is finally bringing its street-level characters to the front of the big stage alongside its blockbuster heroes.

The Amazing Cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Alongside Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland, we’ll see Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned and Sadie Sink in undisclosed role. Rumours hint at additional cameos like Blade and even Kingpin, as he is currently the mayor of New York City.

What This Team-up Means

Frank Castle/ The Punisher originally made his debut in 1974’s comic The Amazing Spider-Man#129. He was a lethal assassin sent to kill Spider-Man. As time passed, both of them developed a complex dynamic between them. They were at times allies and at times enemies.

Jon Bernthal’s return as The Punisher shows Marvel is willing to bring Netflix-only characters to the forefront of the MCU. Daredevil’s cameos in No Way Home and Echo shows Marvel’s commitment to reimagining fan-favourites for a wider audience.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has to be one of the most interesting MCU entries to date. Bernthal’s Punisherbrings a thrilling, morally charged, and possibly violent new chapter for Spider-Man. Marvel will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026. For more such articles, make sure you follow Dominade.
