The Payday 3 Skills 2.0 update is finally here, but is it enough to satisfy the fans? Fans have complained about the messy release of Payday 3 for a long time now, two years to be exact. And among these complaints is a set of complaints targeting the skill system in Payday 3. But why is the Payday 3 Skills 2.0 update so important, and what was wrong with the old skill system?

The initial implementation of the skill system in Payday 3 left many longtime fans, and even recent players, dissatisfied. Many players argued that longtime fans felt this way due to bias, but this claim fell apart when new players expressed the same sentiment. So, will the release of the Payday 3 Skills 2.0 update fix the dissatisfaction with the initial skill system?

What Is The New Payday 3 Skills 2.0 System?

The new Payday 3 Skills 2.0 system reworks the entire skill system as we know it. The first implementation of the Payday 3 Skills 2.0 system will include six skill categories, each containing three skill trees. Combining every skill in the Payday 3 Skills 2.0 system will total a massive 126 different skills, so builds are back on the menu.

The controversial skill buffs are also gone with the new system, replaced by the improved skills. The skills themselves aren’t the only familiar thing added in the Payday 3 Skills 2.0 update. The UI for the new skill system might seem familiar to many longtime fans, as it’s now a more vertical design instead of the familiar horizontal setup.

After basking in the beauty of the new skill system, why not try your hand at some new builds with it? When selecting a skill to apply, you’ll see the skill point cost in the bottom right of each skill icon. And if you want to access the next tier of skills, you’ll have to equip a certain number of skills, no matter which tree it’s from.

Unfortunately, the costs of these skills won’t allow you to select every skill from every skill category. Players can gain more skill points by leveling up their character, totaling 51 skill points at the highest level of 150. This system means that the more you play, the more skill points you earn and the more powerful you become.

Is This It For The Payday 3 Skills 2.0 System?

Fortunately, Starbreeze promises to consistently update the Payday 3 Skills 2.0 system after its initial release. So if you have any criticisms about the new system, send them over to the devs, and they’ll listen. And since it’s a brand new system, problems and balancing issues are expected, so let the devs know about these issues.

But enough talk, nothing is going to get done when all you do is plan all day, so mask up and get that dough!
