Reading Time: 4 minutes

Weapon customization and stats have arrived in Helldivers 2 for all Helldivers. The update came on May 13, 2025, along with new Illuminate threats and new camouflages for previous Warbonds. The recent weapon customizations have allowed Helldivers to better adapt to enemies, just in time as the Illuminate deployed its new enemy units.

However, many Helldivers are still unsure of what the new attachments and stats mean. Though most Helldivers aren’t to blame, the large number of attachments is quite overwhelming. By reading this article, you and your fellow Helldivers should have a good grasp of the new weapon customization in Helldivers 2.

The new update brought along a handful of weapon customizations to Helldivers 2, but are they, and what do they do? The customization options consist of optics, muzzles, under-barrels, magazines, and cosmetic camouflage. Of course, these attachments aren’t just for show. Every attachment provides an increase in specific weapon stats.

At this time, there are eight optics, eight muzzles, six under-barrels, and six magazines. These attachments provide varying pros and cons for most weapons, with the exception being the Killzone crossover weapons and a few others. Firstly, the eight optics consist of:

  1. The Iron Sight: A basic iron sight that increases ergonomics for different weapons. An attachment for Helldivers who want to relive the glorious struggles of their ancestors
  2. The Reflex Sight: A sight with a thin rectangular housing to maximize the visibility of the target. An attachment that provides ergonomics with a circle dot reticle for weapons that start with a higher-powered optic.
  3. The Reflex Sight Mk2: A variation on the reflex sight featuring a circular sight housing and dot reticle. Since it’s a variation of the previous reflex sight, it provides the same stats.
  4. The Holographic Sight: A holographic sight similar to the reflex sights. Instead, it features a thin square housing with a dot reticle and provides the same stats.
  5. The 1.5x Tube Red Dot: The standard scope for most weapons, providing a small magnified zoom with a dot reticle. This attachment is similar to the previously mentioned attachments but differs in its magnification.
  6. The 2x Tube Red Dot: A tube sight with variable 2x magnification and features a duplex crosshair despite its name. This attachment is optimal for hitting small targets at medium range.
  7. The 4x Combat Scope: A combat scope with a variable 4x magnification and unique circle dot reticle. This scope is perfect for medium to long-range engagements.
  8. The 10x Sniper Scope: A scope with a variable 10x magnification and a mil-dot crosshair for on-the-fly ranging. This scope excels at long-range sniping, perfect for support and sniper Helldivers.

Besides the different ranges that each scope can engage in, what does ergonomics mean? Ergonomics in Helldivers 2 dictates how quick and snappy your aim is with that weapon, making your freedom dispenser follow your view more swiftly. It makes a world of difference when you’re engaging multiple enemies at once.

Secondly, the muzzle attachments, similar to the optics, contain eight. These include:

  1. No Attachment: A standard for most weapons with mostly nothing of note. This attachment, or lack thereof, only affects weapons that come with a muzzle attachment, giving them increased ergonomics and horizontal recoil.
  2. No Choke: A standard for all shotguns, providing no increases in any stats.
  3. The Flash Hider: A muzzle attachment that reduces the size of muzzle flash by dispersing the burning propellant when firing the weapon. It decreases both vertical and horizontal recoil at the cost of ergonomics. Of course, just like the other attachments, it affects certain weapons differently.
  4. The Muzzle Break: The muzzle break redirects propellant gases to the sides when firing. Thus decreasing horizontal recoil at the cost of ergonomics.
  5. The Compensator: The compensator redirects propellant gases upwards to compensate for muzzle climb when firing the weapon. Hence, it decreases vertical recoil and ergonomics, and due to the gases going straight up, it also slightly obscures the view of the Helldiver.
  6. The Half Choke: A muzzle attachment unique to shotguns, it’s a half-constricted muzzle that forces the shotgun pellets together into a somewhat tighter group. Therefore, allowing Helldivers to land more accurate shots at longer ranges.
  7. The Full Choke: An attachment similar to the half choke, except it’s a fully constricted muzzle that forces the shotgun pellets together into an even tighter group. Making pellets land on the target with even tighter groupings and more accuracy at range.
  8. The Duckbill Choke: A unique flattened muzzle attachment that forces the shotgun pellets into a thin horizontal line. Consequently, this makes any shotgun excel at crowd control, allowing a Helldiver to metaphorically “Sweep” enemies like a broom.

Of course, the vertical and horizontal recoil in question refers to the weapon moving upward and swaying from side to side with constant firing.

And last but not least, the magazine attachments. Each magazine attachment affects the weapon classes differently, for example, assault rifles, submachine guns, and shotguns. But bigger magazines always reduce the total number of magazines a Helldiver can carry. These contain:

  1. The Extended Magazine: The standard magazine in the Super Earth military, favoring sustained fire over ergonomics. But for weapons that don’t start with this magazine, it can either increase or reduce ergonomics and reload speeds.
  2. The Short Magazine: A magazine with a small and more compact capacity, making it easier and faster to reload while providing better ergonomics.
  3. The Drum Magazine: A magazine with a very high capacity at the cost of total magazines and ergonomics. Aside from its cons, this magazine allows Helldivers to provide consistent and oppressive fire to the enemies of democracy.
  4. The Standard Heatsink: The standard heatsink for laser rifles, which acts as a magazine, such as the LAS-5 Scythe. It provides no changes to stats as it is the base heatsink.
  5. The High Dissipation Heatsink: A heatsink with thinner cooling elements. It improves the cooling rate once a Helldiver has stopped firing.
  6. The High Capacity Heatsink: A larger heatsink that can store more heat and let Helldivers fire for much longer.

The magazines may appear simple, but they are critical to a Helldiver’s playstyle, whether they prioritize speed over sustained fire and vice versa.

Apart from the game-changing attachments, there is also the camouflage. While it provides no mechanical advantage, Helldivers can finally mix and match with their favorite armor to bolster their dashing good looks to strike fear into the ugly enemy.
