We previously covered Recon, the reconnaissance specialist, so how about we cover Recon’s opposite, the Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin. Instead of revealing those who hide in the shadows, Assassin is the one who hides in darkness, and they’re damn good at it. But you will have to perfect your stealth on your own; the Shell won’t do all of the work.
While the Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin, is great at stealth, it only provides you with the tools to do so. So, you’ll have to understand the tools before you can get close to Assassin’s full potential, as much as I don’t want that to happen. Nevertheless, it is my duty to inform, so let’s take a look at Assassin’s abilities so that you can perfect them.
The Abilities Of The Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin

The Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin, excels at stealth, and most of their abilities focus on staying hidden or evasion. And for you to perfect the art of stealth, you’ll have to know about all of Assassin’s abilities before you can get started. So, let’s begin this guide with Assassin’s prime ability, Smoke Screen.
Assassin’s Prime Ability: Smoke Screen
While it may not seem like it, this prime ability helps them with stealth and evasion a massive amount. Smoke Screen sees Assassin throw out a smoke disk, deploying a line of smoke in front of them. You can use this line of smoke for concealment or use it to reposition while the enemy is none the wiser.
As we go down the list of Assassin’s abilities, you’ll come to realize why an Assassin in a smoke field is so dangerous. But it’s common sense that diving headfirst into a smoke field is a bad idea, because you don’t know what’s on the other side. Though if you love a bit of gambling, then gambling your life by diving into smoke is no different.
Assassin’s Tactical Ability: Active Camo
The Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin, is known for its Active Camo, the ability that turns them invisible at a moment’s notice. Activating Active Camo enables Assassin’s camouflage systems, which turn them almost completely invisible, with some caveats. While Assassins are almost completely invisible, certain actions take them out of invisibility.
When performing offensive actions, using abilities or consumables, and taking damage, Active Camo briefly becomes disrupted. Not only that, but Active Camo gets noisier the faster you move and becomes less effective. So don’t think you’re immune to human sense, especially to the sense of hearing.
Assassin’s Trait Ability: Shadow Dive
With Shadow Dive, Assassins can deploy a smoke disk just as they impact the ground from a jump. Shadow Dive can help cover a hasty escape or allow Assassin to slip back into stealth before reappearing for an ambush. The use case of this ability is all up to the Runner who uses the Assassin Shell.
As mentioned before, Assassins in smoke are some of the most dangerous and devious creatures known to man. But I haven’t told you why yet, and I bet it’s left some of you rather confused as to what I mean. Well, let’s save you the confusion and explain why being around the Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin, in smoke is so dangerous.
Assassin’s Trait Ability: Shroud
This last and final trait for the Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin, is Shroud, arguably the most dangerous ability they have. Assassin’s Shroud ability allows them to go invisible anytime they enter a smoke field, allowing them to disappear the moment they touch smoke. And god forbid you stay in the smoke with them, because their knife sure is sharp.
With Shroud, Assassins can slip out of the fight and ambush you when you least expect it. This ability makes Assassin elusive, cunning, and most annoyingly, sly. But an Assassin isn’t without its faults, and it definitely isn’t without its Runner’s faults.
Is That All For The Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin?
That is indeed all for the Marathon Runner Shell, Assassin, at least for their abilities that is. We’ve yet to cover the Shell-specific cores for Marathon’s most annoying Shell. And we’ll get to covering the Shell-specific cores of Marathon at some point, even the Assassin cores, as much as I don’t want to.
Despite my ever-growing hatred for Assassins, I hope you do well on Tau Ceti IV with this Shell, now that you know how to use it. And remember, it’s never personal, it’s just business, ok, maybe it’s a little personal when it comes to Assassins. Now arm up and get on your feet, Runner, your debt isn’t going to pay itself!
