Overwatch has been out for nine years, and each year brings something new to try and play in-game. Sometimes it’ll be a seasonal event like Christmas, or an event for a new game mode or character being added.
Then there are crossovers, other games or shows collaborating with Overwatch for an event, bringing cosmetics, and a game mode. Many people have been wondering what the next one would be, possibly Power Rangers, maybe Borderlands, but not Nerf.
Overwatch Challenges Nerf or Nothing

Overwatch has had skins for a while, and introduced weapon skins by themselves a bit ago as well. So, while people thought we’d be getting just a new game mode, they were completely wrong about it.
Seems that when it came time to reveal what was coming with the collab, fans weren’t excited for it. Some say they judge too fast, but when comparing to what we could have gotten, it’s understandable to expect the worst.
Then, on August 5th, the update and collaboration dropped with everything that was coming with it, curiosity turned into excitement. It had more than what fans thought of, and with some free stuff along with it, so everyone got something.
The first thing that fans saw was the brand new game mode called Nerf or Nothing, based around Nerf toys. This wasn’t just using characters that had similar skins to it, but real Nerf guns replaced each character’s weapon in-game.
One character even gets two Nerf weapons, with foam shuriken and a foam bat for his ultimate ability. All of the Nerf guns found in-game are based on real Nerf toys that people can buy in real life.
Thankfully, the Nerf guns aren’t just tied to the game mode, as you can buy all but one of them. That one Nerf gun you can’t buy is because you get it for free simply by playing the game mode.
While some may consider that goofy, the fans love it, with some even making it their main weapon skin. It gets even better since Overwatch’s competitive weapons skins work with Nerf’s, making golden and emerald Nerf guns real in-game.
There’s only one complaint from the fans, which is that the Nerf revolver skin for Cassidy is tied to a skin. The skin itself isn’t bad, but most fans would rather the gun be separate since Cassidy has better skins himself.
Overall, many people were expecting this collaboration to be a bust, but it turned out to be a good one. Hell, it made me pick the game back up after a year of refusing to touch it, so it’s worth a try.
