HBO announced a Harry Potter TV series during its Max streaming event in April 2023. The world of magic and wizardry is back, but this time on the small screen. Without further ado, here’s everything we know so far about the series.
The series is based on the seven novels of Harry Potter, with each season based on a novel. There will be seven seasons over 10 years. This is a highly anticipated series as we are getting a Harry Potter TV series after more than a decade.
The Magical Cast of The Harry Porter TV Series

The Harry Potter TV series introduces a new generation of artists, giving a fresh new start. The cast consists of actors of the new generation like Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley).
While we have actors in adult roles like John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Lox Pratt (Draco Malfoy), Leo Earley (Seamus Finnigan), Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrell).
The actor playing Voldemort is still unknown; however, there are rumours of actors like Cillian Murphy and Christian Bale floating around.
The Creative team for the series consists of showrunner and Lead Writer Francesca Gardiner, Lead Director and Executive Producer Mark Mylod, and Executive Producers: J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman (Producer of the original eight films).
How Involved is J.K. Rowling?
Even though there has been controversy surrounding Rowling in recent years, she is still heavily involved as she is the executive producer. She will be keeping an eye on the Harry Potter TV series as HBO and Warner Bros are making sure the new series honours her original vision while making sure it’s suitable for modern audiences.
What Makes This Series Unique
The new Harry Potter TV series, rather than being a reboot of the films, is a new adaptation of the original seven novels. Which allows to explore neglected storylines like S.P.E.W., Peeves, and the Marauders’ backstory. This also allows the development of relationships with more nuance and the expansion of magic lore. The series will also reportedly have a darker, more mature tone.
The series has to be the most ambitious fantasy project of the decade. With a fresh cast, skilled showrunners, and a deep respect for the source material, the series is destined to rekindle the magic for the new generation of audience while making sure the veterans of the fanbase get to rediscover the world of magic that they fell in love with.
The series is expected to be released between late 2026 and early 2027. For more such articles, make sure you follow Dominade.
