Disney+ officially revealed their earnings for Q1 2025 today. Moreover, it does not look good for the streaming platform. During the presentation, the corporation revealed that Disney+ has lost 700,000 subscribers in the last three months of 2024. Not only does this dictate a huge loss in potential revenue for the upcoming months, but it also forces the platform to work a lot on its services.
However, this may not be a big number for the company after all. The Disney+ subscriber base alone has now dropped to 124.6 million, excluding India’s Disney+ Hotstar. Despite the numbers revealed, the giant is still managing great, as suggested by the report.
Disney+ Q1 2025 Performance Explored
According to reports across the web, Disney+ anticipated the fall for Q1 2025. Moreover, the corporation has also stated another “modest decline” in its subscriber count for the year. The reports show that the decline was due to their recent price hikes and the expiration of promotional offers.
The platform added 4.4 million new users from June 2024 to September 2024. This was mostly due to the blockbuster hits that Disney put out during the period. Fans were excited to catch their favorite IP on the streaming platform, for a reasonable price.
Box office hits like Moana 2, proved the success by passing $1 billion globally. Moreover, movies like Inside Out 2 were also a reason for a large audience on the platform. Lastly, Mufasa: The Lion King was also a huge success for the company. Till now, Mufasa has garnered a total revenue of $650 million to date.
Following the pattern, Disney probably hoped for higher skies too. However, it must have fallen short on a few accounts. Aside from this, a similar number of users were also lost from the ESPN user base.
Disney CEO Bob Iger himself claimed that Q1 2024 was outstanding for the box office performance. He also added that the company further improved the profitability of the Entertainment DTC streaming businesses.
Iger stated that the company took an important step to advance ESPN’s digital strategy, by adding ESPN on Disney+. This enhanced the user experience for many viewers across the globe, as many rely on the famous ESPN for their daily sports news.
