Gone Girl (2014)

Gone Girl, based on Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel of the same name, is the story of a seemingly perfect couple. It starts with Amy Dunne disappearing on her fifth wedding anniversary. Conveniently enough, Nick, her husband, becomes the prime suspect. The story alternates between Nick’s perspective and Amy’s diary entries, unravelling a chilling tale of intelligence and ruthlessness.

Amy Dunne was Rosamund’s global breakout role, which earned her an Oscar nomination. Not to spoil anything, but her shift from soft-spoken “Amazing Amy” to blood-soaked sociopath is sinister. Just the right snack to munch on for psychological thriller enthusiasts.

Pride & Prejudice (2005)

What could be worse for a family in 18th-century Regency England? Poverty, yes, but almost equally damning was not having a son. When a wealthy Mr. Bingley moves into the neighbourhood, Mrs. Bennet is all set to couple him up with her eldest daughter. But here’s the twist: this love-hate story is about Elizabeth Bennet and Bingley’s socially awkward friend, Mr. Darcy.

This movie was an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel “Pride and Prejudice”. To this day, it remains one of the most beloved historical romance dramas of all time. Pike plays the role of the eldest daughter of the Bennet family, Jane. She perfectly shows that strength can be soft, where she gently mediates the path to rebellion.

I Care a Lot (2020)

Marla, by the accounts of both conscience and her actions, is a wretchedly evil woman. What other way could there be to describe someone like her? She poses as the legal guardian of wealthy elderly people, throws them into old age homes, and sells off their properties. But everything falls apart when she targets Jennifer Peterson. Because unlike the cover-up, Jennifer is not some sweet old lady but a vicious woman with ties to the Russian mafia.

And this marks the start of a deadly, high-stakes game. Rosamund stars as Marla and later won a Golden Globe for this role. It’s a rare thriller that lets a woman be unapologetically disgusting, cruel, and completely terrifying.

The World’s End (2013)

This sci-fi comedy begins with five childhood friends reuniting as adults. They come together to finish a pub crawl they failed to complete in their teens. But as they go from pub to pub, they realise robot-like aliens have replaced the townspeople. Strangely enough, these aliens are trying to create a “perfect” society. Now, the burden lies on the shoulders of six people to save the world.

Rosamund plays Sam, the sixth member of the group. Although she wasn’t part of the original gang, she joined in their pub crawl. The alien invasion also serves as a metaphor for addiction, regret, and docility. Viewers feel a mix of adulthood and nostalgia, along with the disturbing realities of the world around us.
