Alex Garland, the director behind the upcoming Elden Ring live-action movie, shared a few words regarding the RPG title. According to his interview with IGN, he has journeyed to the Lands Between six times. Moreover, he is on his seventh run.
This statement from the director is massive news for fans anticipating the movie, as the majority of the audience is expecting the movie to align with the source material. Elden Ring has garnered a massive fan following after its release in 2022. Moreover, the title was a gateway for many into the Soulsborne genre.
Alex Garland is a Hardened Elden Ring Fan, Alongside Dark Souls
According to Alex Garland, the director has had the most trouble beating Malenia in Elden Ring. Granted, the boss herself has a reputation for being one of the toughest in the Soulsborne franchise. Moreover, it is interesting how Garland shared his experience with the boss. He told IGN:
“It’s Malenia who’s the tough one.”
However, it seems seven times were not enough for the director. He has now started another run:
“I’m now on my seventh playthrough of that game.”
Judging from his following statement, it is safe to assume Garland knows the nooks and crannies of the game. He stated that he is ‘leveled up’ for his ongoing run, and is equipped with the correct weapon to run at the bosses:
“I’ve leveled up, I’ve got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again.”
Judging from his statement to IGN, one can also assume that the director is accustomed to the psychology of these games, mentioning that he is not afraid to throw himself to the bosses repeatedly until he achieves victory.
He also mentioned that this is the technique he learned from Dark Souls, the predecessor to Elden Ring.
When Will Alex Garland’s The Elden Ring Movie Come Out?
Alex Garland took the helm in directing the Elden Ring movie, as it was first revealed on May 26, 2025. That being said, the movie is still in its early production stage. Meaning it will be hard to tell an official release date, as it’s still in the works.
However, Bandai Namco has already shared some key details regarding the movie. The publisher has joined hands with A24 to work on the movie, as both parties work on bringing Hidetaka Miyazaki’s legendary work to life.
