Will Hidetaka Miyazaki’s legendary RPG series ever see an addition with Dark Souls IV? Dark Souls is a genre-defining RPG Series developed by FromSoftware, Miyazaki’s brainchild. The series began with the launch of Dark Souls on September 22, 2011. Its high difficulty has defined a new genre of games called Soulslike and influenced the gaming industry a lot.

The series initially launched on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles and was re-released to PC on August 23, 2012. Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III were later added to the trilogy in 2014 and 2016, respectively. In this article, we will look into the possibility of a Dark Souls IV.

To understand the possibility of a Dark Souls IV being made, we first have to look into the series. Where does it get to? How it got there, and if there is any need for it. Dark Souls II launched on March 11, 2014.

Hidetaka Miyazaki took a step back and let Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura direct the game while he acted as a supervisor. It has also received critical acclaim from reviewers who praised its story, atmosphere, and world design.

They were divided on its difficulty and deemed its boss battles and mechanics paled in comparison to the original.

Hidetaka Miyazaki showed regret about taking a step back from his role as a director during the game’s development in their later interviews. Fans of the series also consider it to be the weakest link in the series because of its plot and gameplay.

Dark Souls III is the third and final addition to the series. Hidetaka Miyazaki took back control and acted as the director alongside Isamu Okano and Yui Tanimura. The RPG was critically acclaimed by both critics and fans. It was a huge commercial success, shipping over three million copies within its first two months and 10 million by 2020.

Dark Souls III’s Plot Confirmed the Conclusion to the Beloved Franchise

The plot of Dark Souls III follows the Ashen One, an undead who failed to become a Lord of Cinder and is thus called an Unkindled. The Ashen One must rise and link the fire by returning Prince Lothric and the defiant Lords of Cinder to their thrones in Firelink Shrine, upon which the Ashen One travels to the ruins of the Kiln of the First Flame.

It is where they encounter The Soul of Cinder. After defeating The Soul of Cinder, the player can attempt to link the fire or access three other optional endings unlocked by the player’s in-game decisions.

These include summoning the Fire Keeper to extinguish the flame and begin the Age of Dark, or killing her in a sudden change of heart. A fourth ending consists of the Ashen One taking the flame for their own, becoming the Lord of Hollows.
