We’ve finally reached the last Shell on our list, and it’s none other than the Marathon Runner Shell, Thief. The Thief Shell is a perfect chassis for those who love to sniff out and hoard loot, but Thief isn’t always all about loot. The Thief Shell has a few other tricks up their sleeve that make them excel in combat alongside their looting expertise.
The Marathon Runner Shell, Thief, features a massive list of abilities for you to learn, but each one serves a useful purpose. These abilities assist the Thief Shell with looting, combat, mobility, and scouting. And these abilities are perfect for a solo Runner and a team Runner, but let’s not delay any further and get right into the abilities.
The Abilities Of The Marathon Runner Shell, Thief

The Marathon Runner Shell, Thief, could be seen as a rather selfish Shell, and it can be, but a good Thief isn’t only selfish. Runners who use Thief provide themselves and their team with unparalleled potential mobility and scouting capabilities. But for you to provide yourself and your team with something besides selfishness, you’ll have to learn Thief’s abilities.
Thief’s Prime Ability: Pickpocket Drone
The first ability of the Marathon Runner Shell, Thief, that you’ll have to learn is Thief’s prime ability, Pickpocket Drone. The Thief Shell can pilot a drone with a limited lifespan to either scout out an area or steal a few trinkets you can find. However, if someone has already grabbed that trinket, then you can steal it from them with your drone.
The Pickpocket Drone features a hooked tether that can open and close doors and eject loot from Runners. When firing your tether to steal an item from a Runner, the tether will eject the highest value item first before going down the list of rarities. So if you’re a good pilot, you can yoink that prestige item out from an extracting team before they can grab it back.
Thief’s Tactical Ability: Grapple Device
This ability should catch the attention of every Pathfinder and Grapple Pilot main, as it functions almost identically to them. You may remember me mentioning Thief’s unparalleled movement capabilities, and that’s because of Thief’s Grapple Device. This device allows Thief to gain both distance and height, all in one package.
With the Grapple Device, Thief can gain the high ground, Anakin’s worst nightmare, with a simple press of a button. The Grapple device might even help those who love to use long-range weapons, as you can get to vantage points rather easily. You can also use the Grapple Device to either push an enemy or run away, depending on the situation.
Thief’s Trait Ability: X-ray Visor
For you to become a good Thief, you’ll have to know what to grab and where to do it, and the X-ray Visor will help with that. With the visor enabled, the Thief Shell can see hostiles and containers in the color of the most valuable item they’re storing. You can see containers through walls, while hostiles require a line of sight.
Additionally, the X-ray Visor of the Marathon Runner Shell, Thief, has another trick up its sleeve. With the visor enabled, you can aim at an enemy for a short duration to hack their optics, which renders their view disrupted. This effect disappears when you look away from your hacked targets, so keep that in mind.
Thief’s Trait Ability: The Finer Things
The last trait ability of the Marathon Runner Shell, Thief, is The Finer Things, a kind of passive ability. When playing as the Thief Shell, you gain more weapon handling and an increased Grapple Device cooldown speed the more items you have in your backpack. It’s a bit strange to have to be more selfish to fight better, but you’ll have to do what you have to do.
Though if you don’t want to be the worst teammate ever, you can instead load up with less valuable items if you have nothing else. Though despite your Shell’s name, try not to steal your crew member’s loot; nobody likes a player like that. Though I don’t blame you for snatching a prestige item from your team’s grasp, it’s very tempting.
Is That All For The Marathon Runner Shell, Thief?

That is indeed all for the abilities of the Marathon Runner Shell, Thief, but it certainly isn’t all on the Thief Shell. As mentioned in previous Runner Shell guides, I’ll list the Shell-specific cores on a later date once I cover the Runner Shells. And with the Thief Shell covered, that leaves us with one last Shell to cover, and that would be the humble Rook Shell.
So, if you want to learn more about Shell-specific cores and what the Rook Shell has in store, then stick around. Until then, the CARRI system has returned, and it has an inventory of goodies for you to purchase. So help your team and get buying!
