It’s that time again, and it seems Silver in Deadlock has won the vote for the next character this time. This rough-around-the-edges bounty hunter joins the roster with a powerful and unique set of abilities and weapons to reel in her catch. But those wolf ears and tail aren’t just cosplay, or for show; they hint at a much more dangerous fact about her.

Silver in Deadlock is a lycan, a rare creature of the night that many of you know as a werewolf. And as ironic as her name may be, she’s nothing to laugh at, and if you do, you might get a whiskey bottle thrown your way. So, let’s see what this bounty hunter has packed away in her kit and what it can do to her bounties.

The Abilities Of Silver In Deadlock

Silver in Deadlock is a unique character, even compared to her fellow heroes in the Deadlock roster. Silver comes with two versions of her kit, a human and a lycan version, which completely change how her abilities function. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; let’s start with her primary weapon first, the Hair of the Dog.

Hair Of The Dog

Hair of the Dog is Silver’s trusty, slow-firing, lever-action shotgun. Each of the five shells in Hair of the Dog contains seven pellets that fire in a hexagonal pattern. Hair of the Dog deals 5.5 damage per pellet and shoots shells at one shell per second, resulting in a DPS of 38.5.

Since it’s a lever-action shotgun, Silver in Deadlock reloads one shell at a time and can interrupt her reload when needed.

Slam Fire/Go For The Throat

Silver in Deadlock is a special case when it comes to her abilities, as she has two sets of abilities. Her abilities change according to her current form, whether it be her human form or lycan form. We’ll start with the human form first and then move on to the lycan form immediately afterward.

Silver’s first ability, Slam Fire, instantly reloads her weapon and grants her 300% bonus fire rate and bonus damage based on missing health. Unfortunately, this effect only lasts for three shells, and Silver is 25% less accurate while under its influence. Slam Fire makes up for Hair of the Dog’s slow fire rate, but use it carefully.

While in her lycan form, Slam Fire turns into Go for the Throat, an ability that deals 75 melee damage to all enemies in front of her. Go for the Throat grants 40% lifesteal from the damage dealt and also deals more damage based on missing health. This ability also has a quick five-second cooldown, so use it before you turn back into a human.

The upgrades for both abilities and their effects are as follows:

  1. The first upgrade reduces the cooldown of Slam Fire by four seconds, leaving it with a 16-second cooldown. Go for the Throat receives a damage buff of 30, resulting in 105 melee damage.
  2. The second upgrade enhances Slam Fire by allowing it to buff your weapon damage by 30%. Go for the Throat receives a 25% increase in lifesteal, increasing it to 65%.
  3. The third upgrade enhances Slam Fire with bonus damage if you hit all of your shots. The damage dealt deals 10% of your current health to the enemy. With this upgrade, Go for the Throat’s damage dealt based on missing health percentage is raised by 5%, raising it to 13%.

Boot Kick/Mauling Leap

Boot Kick launches Silver forwards to kick any enemy she hits, dealing 45 melee damage, while marking them after pushing off of them. Marked targets stay marked for three seconds and get dealt 25 spirit damage when attacked. This mark disappears after completing its job of dealing spirit damage.

In her lycan form, Boot Kick transforms into Mauling Leap, an ability with a similar tackling attack. Mauling Leap launches Silver forward to maul the first enemy she hits for 95 melee damage and debuff them with two effects. Enemies hit by Mauling Leap receive -8% bullet resist and take 15 spirit damage per second for six seconds.

The upgrades for both of these tackling abilities are as follows:

  1. The first upgrade decreases Boot Kick’s cooldown by six seconds, granting it a 15-second cooldown. The first upgrade increases the damage per second enemies receive by 10, raising the damage to 25.
  2. The next upgrade makes Boot Kick restore two stamina charges if Silver successfully pounces on a hero. On the other hand, Mauling Leap’s cooldown gets reduced by nine seconds, bringing it to a seven-second cooldown.
  3. The final upgrade enables Boot Kick to debuff enemies with -25% damage for five seconds when hit. Mauling Leap has its bullet resist debuff improved by -12%, which leaves it at -20%.

Entangling Bola/Tail Whack

Silver’s third ability, Entangling Bola, sees her throw out a bola that deals 40 spirit damage and slows enemies. Slowed enemies have their movement speed slowed by 20% and can’t use movement abilities, stamina, or even jump. The slow effect lasts for 1.5 seconds by default, but that’s enough time for Silver in Deadlock to capture her bounties.

While in lycan form, her third ability turns into Tail Whack, an ability that smashes any enemy around her with her big bushy tail. Tail Whack deals 45 spirit damage, disarms enemies for 2.5 seconds, and slows enemies by -30% for 1.5 seconds. And although the wise words of Ken Ashcorp tell you otherwise, do not touch the fluffy tail; it hurts.

The upgrades and their effects on Entangling Bola and Tail Whack are as follows:

  1. The first upgrade increases the move speed debuff for Entangling Bola by -25%, resulting in a -45% move speed debuff. Tail Whack gets a 25 damage increase, raising its damage to 70 damage.
  2. The second upgrade increases the debuff duration of Entangling Bola by .75 seconds, leaving it at 2.25 seconds. This upgrade allows Tail Whack to slow enemies by -40%, equaling to -70%.
  3. The final upgrade allows Entangling Bola to ricochet to two extra targets. Tail Whack gets a one-second increase to the disarm debuff, leaving it with 3.5 seconds instead.

Lycan Curse

The ultimate ability of Silver in Deadlock, Lycan Curse, is where all of her lycan powers come from. Lycan Curse comes in a passive and active form for Silver in Deadlock to use. The passive ability of Lycan Curse builds bloodlust when dealing damage, and generates it more when at low health.

When reaching max bloodlust, Silver automatically casts Lycan Curse, turning her into the big werewolf we know and love, or fear. But if you’re impatient, you can also use the active form to transform into her werewolf form without the need to cast it. Regardless of which form you use, they both feature the same effects.

When in lycan form, Silver gains 350 more health, an additional 3m to movement speed, and can increase her fire rate by attacking heroes. Silver also gains 20% in both bullet and spirit resist, allowing her to tank hits a little more effectively. However, she’s stuck to only using her claws, so make sure to get in close when attacking.

The upgrades of Lycan Curse are as follows:

  1. The first upgrade increases her bullet and spirit resist by 15%, resulting in 35% for both stats.
  2. The second upgrade adds 3m to her speed and 125 health to her werewolf form.
  3. The final upgrade refreshes her abilities, transformation duration, and heals her upon killing a hero.

How Should I Play Silver In Deadlock?

The six upcoming characters (Image: Valve)

The kit of Silver in Deadlock specializes in locking onto an enemy and making sure they don’t get away easily. Silver can slow her targets to a crawl before unleashing an unbelievable amount of DPS, then turning into a raging monster to finish the job. She is a fierce opponent, but her human abilities limit her effectiveness in team fights.

However, this can change with different builds and items, so find what makes Silver in Deadlock click for you. And you better do it quick, rent is coming up, and you need the bounty money to pay for it. Because trust me, it’s hard to get the filth of the Cursed Apple out of your fur after sleeping in those streets.
