Valve has collaborated with Ipecac Recordings to bring the Half-Life: Alyx vinyl and CD collection to life. As mentioned, the vinyl and CD collection contains the entire soundtrack of the generational VR game, Half-Life: Alyx. But it isn’t as simple as just one giant LP vinyl, and it certainly doesn’t look simple either.
The physical soundtrack collection comes in two forms, the vinyl and CD editions, and the vinyls also have their own editions. The vinyls are available in two forms: the six-LP box set and the two-LP vinyl set. It may seem confusing at first, seeing that there are two vinyl sets, but it’s actually simple.
What the two different vinyl sets offer and their differences are as follows:
- The Six-LP Box Set:
- Features all 72 tracks from Half-Life: Alyx on a 180 g vinyl.
- This set comes in a lift-top box.
- Includes a 24×48″ poster.
- Also includes a download card for digital versions of the tracks.
- The Two-LP Vinyl Set:
- Features 21 chosen pieces from the Half-Life: Alyx soundtrack, chosen by listeners, across two 180 g vinyl LPs.
- This set comes in a custom gatefold jacket.
- Includes a 24×48″ poster.
- Also includes a download card, similar to the six-LP box set.
- Three colour variants are available for the two-LP vinyl set.
If CDs are more your speed, then Valve has your back, as the Half-Life: Alyx soundtrack is also available in that form. The CDs are much simpler to understand compared to the Vinyl sets, so choose the CDs if you want simplicity. The CD version features four CDs in a foldout digipak that contain all 72 tracks from the game.
