The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update arrived on September 29, 2025, to bring a greater sense of purpose and humanity. The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update accomplishes this through narrative changes and with some friendly new faces. Although this update is smaller than the previous one, it still changes a big part of the game.
The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update focuses on a few specific parts of the Lightyear Frontier experience. The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update contrasts with the previous Shifting Gears update, which added new content and tools. So let’s get into the Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update and find out what you can do for the greater cause.
What The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause Update Contains

As mentioned, the Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update aims to improve the gameplay experience in Lightyear Frontier. These include improving a core gameplay element and adding new ways to share with friends and the community. And the first of these, and the most major, is the improvement of the delivery game mechanic.
The Delivery System Improvement

Since its inception, the delivery system has been rather bare bones, but that changes with the Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update. Up to this point, we’ve been delivering to unknown and invisible colonies on different planets with no thanks in sight. But we can now finally put a face to these colonies, as they now have representatives who speak to you.
These representatives will request supplies as usual, but now you will witness the difference these supplies make. As you complete more requests, the colonies and their representatives will trust you more and gain stability on their planets. In addition to helping the human race prosper, you’ll also get to learn more about the different colonies.
Additionally, you can now also contribute to a community-wide objective alongside the usual contributions. And the new community objective is called the Research Initiative.
The Research Initiative

The Research Initiative is the second addition in the Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update. The Research Initiative is a project posted by the Prometheus Station asking all Exofarmers to contribute to new technological sciences. These Research Initiatives pave the way to new technologies for your mech suit, but to make it a reality, everyone must contribute.
As of September 29, 2025, the first Research initiative is already available for everyone to contribute to. The first goal is for the Hardened Seeds mod chip, and everyone must donate 1,000,000 Polyberries, Copper Wires, and Wheat Seeds. But these donations are limited to only 100 Polyberries, 250 Copper Wires, and 10,000 Wheat Seeds per person.
Moving along, this isn’t the only addition that lets players share with others. Players can now share their very own save files with the rest of their friends for them to host when they’re away.
The New Shared Save Files Feature

The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update introduces the new shared save file feature for you and your friends. This new feature lets your world be hosted by a friend when you’re away, allowing progress to continue. You’re saving the last remnants of humanity after all, you couldn’t possibly think about sleeping on the job, could you?
What Comes After The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause Update?

The Lightyear Frontier Greater Cause update is just one major update out of many more to come for Lightyear Frontier. Meaning that this isn’t the last update you’ll be seeing from Frame Break, the developers behind Lightyear Frontier. But why look at the future when you should be focusing on the present?
So pilot your mech, harvest your fields, and continue your journey in preserving humanity, your journey for the greater cause.
