Peak came from nowhere on June 16, 2025, with Landfall and AggroCrab working together for the development of the game. It was a quick hit, with funny ragdoll clips taking the internet by storm, and only growing from there.
While many people call the game ‘friendslop’, that feels like an insult, since the game has surpassed other games. So, what did the update for the game that wasn’t planned for an update bring for all players?
Peaking The New Mesa Biome
Peak doesn’t like holding the player’s hand; due to that fact, many have started calling it a ‘rage game’. This term is nowhere near being new, and Peak isn’t the first to popularize the genre in video games.
The first rage game to become popular is Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, which was made in 2017. What do this game and Peak have in common to be able to compare the two? You may be thinking.
Climbing is the only way to progress, and falling often means resetting and losing time without warning. The fact is that the game actively tries to anger the player by using a soothing voice or throwing stuff until death.
So, how does the new Mesa biome achieve this while still being beatable and fair with enough knowledge about it? The easiest, and the correct answer, is very extreme heat with constant danger in the form of a sandstorm passing.
The Mesa replaces the Alpine, the once frozen land with extreme cold, taken over by deadly sands and extreme heat. This means that when places reach one, they will not see the other after beating that biome.
As stated above, the Mesa is incredibly hot, and walking out of the shade during the day will burn the player. To counter it, sunscreen can be found to protect for a little while, but it has limited uses.
The heat isn’t the only thing, as cacti, dynamite, and the Sandstorm all provide deadly encounters, and often work together. Even before starting to climb, false baggage can be found, and under it is an Antlion den, scaring players beforehand.
While not everything can be talked about, there’s one last thing to mention before playing the update. You may see an orange scout called the Looker, even when solo, and he holds no threat to players yet.
So get out there, players, and reach the peak with friends, and never leave anyone behind, as rule one says!
