Grounded 2 has been on people’s radars since it was announced that work on it began in late 2023. Fans of the first Grounded have been waiting for its release to see what the new additions were after years.
With it being released recently, many have already bought and played the game alone or with friends, checking the changes. After putting in a good amount of time myself, I’ll talk about what to expect before you buy the game.
Grounded 2 Soaring Gameplay

Grounded 2 couldn’t risk changing a lot from the first game, with the second game still being worth buying. This is a hard feat to do, as simply changing the story found in a game isn’t enough for sales.
Thankfully, many believe that they added the right amount of change and additions from the first Grounded, myself included. These range from items being given new models, to whole new items with new uses, and a whole new map.
The Grounded 2 gameplay changes in ways that allowed them to keep what they had for mechanics from the first game. Games like Bioshock and Borderlands do this as well, teaching new players to learn and allowing old players to return.
The first thing players will see is the character select, which doesn’t change much gameplay-wise, only changing stuff cosmetically. You’ll hear the character’s voice and how they act, so it allows players to see who they like the most.
The game also lets the player change the difficulty, from easy to hard, with a sandbox and custom difficulty modes. These changes affect some gameplay, no big surprise there, but it also seems harder than the first Grounded.
The Grounded 2 map is massive, even with the player being a shrinking teenager; the large map doesn’t have any bad spots. Each location you find holds a purpose, with the land around being available to build bases or gather resources as needed.
The building is incredible, with it being very snappy and easy to connect the pieces for smaller or larger builds. From basic floors and walls for minimalists, to furniture and multi-floor builds for those who want a comfortable base.
The enemies are still here, with many returning and some new foes entering the scene to fight off as well. The ants, ladybugs, and spiders return, with new kinds of spiders and mantises being added to scare the players.
The survival aspect of the game is still there as well, meaning that hunting for food and water still exists. That doesn’t mean new things aren’t added to that, with new weapons and armor to craft, changing how you survive.
So, while a few stick to the first game, Grounded 2 is worth it if you enjoyed the first. The changes are small at first, but quickly grow as you play, and never in a bad way!
