Umamusume Pretty Derby is an anime that fizzled out over time, only gaining a small following in that time. Most would consider the anime unsaveable, with a large amount of content coming to a stop, and with little news.
However, sometimes what dies off comes back bigger and better, and the fanbase explodes with new people joining in.
So, how and why did the anime about girls who are also horses come back alive in the anime scene?
Umamusume Pretty Derby’s Goofy Stories

Umamusume Pretty Derby is an anime about racing horse girls trying to grow and win, with extremely silly moments. It has its moments where it’s very serious when it wants to, but you’ll find more goofy moments when watching.
What doesn’t help is that many of the characters in Umamusume Pretty Derby are based on real-life race horses in Japan. This makes it even funnier since most of the trainers helped recreate how they act in the anime.
Most of the actions were not only told by the trainers, but the horses themselves were watched to see how they acted.
One that seems to be a fan favorite is Gold Ship, a horse with a massive ego and a bully. In the anime version, she’s often seen trying to annoy or bother others, which backfires more often than not.
Compared to the real Gold Ship, which also has a massive ego and is a bully as well. If he notices a camera, he’ll often cause some trouble and even lose races if it means being annoying.
Another one is Haru Urara, a horse known for being very happy, while never winning a race until retiring. After retiring, fans often send her grass to eat, and have sent over two tons of it, years after she retired.
Her anime counterpart with the same name also loses often, only winning a handful of times in three seasons. That doesn’t stop fans, as many consider her to be one of the best characters in the anime and game.
That’s right, there’s also a mobile game that can be played on PC with Steam, and it’s a gacha game. It allows you to train and race the characters to reach the top, as well as race against other players.
There’s even more, with movies out as well, both of which expand the stories of some horses. Both movies hold a rather good screen time, so enjoying them with friends would make it better than watching alone.
