Dead by Daylight is known for being an honor to be added to if a horror icon. Although not everyone may see it that way, as exemplified by Clive Barker, the creator of Hellraiser and Pinhead.
Clive Barker, though not hating the game, did not renew the license of Hellraiser to Dead by Daylight. This caused the team behind it to stop all sales of the DLC, causing fans sadness as we part with Pinhead on April 4th, 2025
What Happened To The Owners Of The Pinhead DLC in Dead by Daylight?
While the Pinhead Dead by Daylight DLC can’t be bought, owners of it still have the right to keep owning it. They will still be able to play Pinhead and use his perks, but they aren’t able to buy any of the outfits.
While other players and I can continue to use his perks, what about the new players? How will they unlock and be able to use them if the DLC has been removed from the shop?
Dead by Daylight seemed ready for this, as when Hellraiser was removed, three ‘new’ perks were added, unlockable for free! These perks, though with a new name and icon, were the perks linked to Pinhead, to allow new players the perks.
These perks allow new players to learn two more mechanics in-game that they may not know about. I think it’s a great change, allowing newer players powerful perks to help early game as a killer.
The first new perk shows Hex perks work, cursing a totem to buff the killer but making it risky, as it can be broken. The second perk shows off Scourge Hooks, four hooks that, when survivors are placed on one, nerf them in some way.
One thing that may confuse some players is not being able to find the ‘new’ perks. After some research, if you unlocked the perks before the change, the perks don’t swap at all, showing off ownership with them.
With that being said, new players are still sad not being able to play as Pinhead, but is there still hope? Will there be a chance in the future that may allow them to play him?
Will Dead by Daylight Open The Pinhead Box Again?
This isn’t Dead by Daylight’s first rodeo losing a chapter due to license issues, due to Stranger Things. The DLC for Stranger Things was removed on November 17, 2021, making all perks linked to the DLC free. Thankfully, after two years, on November 6, 2023, it returned, much to the fans’ delight!
This shows that even though it may not be back for some time, Dead by Daylight may renew the license for Hellraiser. From what we know right now, it may not seem likely, but the voice of the people will be heard. Speak for what you want in the game, we may receive some news at some point about it.
May Pinhead rest well until someone opens the Lament Configuration once more, hopefully, in the Realm.
